SAFSRA CONDOLENCES 26-09-2025
20/08/2020Dear All,
On Tuesday 11th August 2020 the first (of what we hope will be many) retiree’s luncheon under the South Australian Fire Service Retirees Association (SAFSRA) banner was held at the Seaton Hotel. Under the current difficult COVID circumstances the attendance of almost 40 people was extremely encouraging.
The previous luncheon was held in February 2020 and the Seaton Hotel dining room had a real buzz with old acquaintances catching up, possibly telling the same stories that were told in February. It was also very pleasing to see several wives attending happy to have the opportunity to catch up and chat with their friends of many years.
The SAFSRA committee has decided that the serving SAMFS Chief Officer should be invited to be the Patron of the association. The current Chief Officer Mr Michael Morgan has accepted the invitation but was unable to attend this function, fortunately Assistant Chief Fire Officer Roy Thompson attended in his absence.
Association President ‘Johnno’ Johnson invited ACFO Thompson to say a few words to the audience, which he gratefully accepted. Attending his first ever retirees gathering Mr Thompson spoke to the crowd and was well received by the people in the room, he also took the time to chat with some of his old work colleagues.
An information sheet about the association was distributed to the patrons, this has led to a surge in retirees signing up as members of SAFSRA. The overwhelming feedback that the committee has received has been very positive and we believe that the association will continue to expand.
The next luncheon, COVID permitting, will be held on October 13th 2020 at the Albion Hotel Churchill Rd, Kilburn. Hopefully the health conditions will continue to improve and the attendance may grow accordingly.
In closing I would like to acknowledge the continued efforts of Trevor Ward and Johnno Johnson with the organisation and communication in relation to the retiree’s luncheons.
