Hi ,
PFAS BLOOD TESTING UPDATE
https://safecom-files-v8.s3.amazonaws.com/current/docs/Memorandum No. 93-2021 - PFAS Blood Testing Update.pdf
Staff are reminded that the MFS is offering a second round of voluntary Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) blood tests to all current and former MFS staff (Memo 75/2021). Approximately 60 staff have submitted a consent form or survey monkey so far. During the first round in 2018/19, approximately 1000 staff members participated. The MFS would like as many staff as possible to volunteer for a PFAS Blood Test as this will help determine if occupational exposure pathways within the MFS have been eliminated.
The second round will be open for six months from the start of November 2021 to the end of April 2022.
The steps to follow if you wish to participate are detailed below:
1. The Voluntary PFAS Blood Testing 2nd round is open to all current and former staff (you do not need to have participated in round one to access a blood test in round two). This memo and consent form will be available on the MFS Members Only Website.
2. Fill in, sign and return the consent form (last page of this memo) or complete the survey monkey by the 1st of April 2022:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PFAS-2nd-Round_2021
The consent form must include a valid and legible email address as all correspondence of results will be via email.
NOTE: You do not need to submit both a consent form and a survey monkey.
3. After obtaining the consent form, you will be emailed a referral form for Abbott’s Pathology for the PFAS blood testing. A map of Abbott’s Collection centres in South Australia can be found here.
https://www.abbottpathology.com.au/CollectionCentres.aspx
If there are no Abbott’s Pathology facilities located near you, please contact Krystle Mitchell via the email below and an alternative will be arranged. Krystle.Mitchell@sa.gov.au
4. Your blood sample will be sent to Envirolab Sydney for testing. Envirolab typically offer a 7 working day turn around for results.
5. The results will be emailed to you and your GP (as detailed on the consent form). You are not required to detail your GPs contact details in the survey monkey or consent form if you do not want them to have your results. De-identified data will be sent to the MFS Special Operations Department, and to Adelaide University (if you have consented to Part 5 on the consent form or Question 9 in Survey Monkey).
If you would like more information about the project, please contact Senior Scientific and Environment Officer Krystle Mitchell.
