Passing of Michael Dawes

SAFSRA is saddened to inform members of the passing of –:

Joined: 15/03/1965
Retired: 30/08/2002

It is with sadness that we inform you of the passing of our respected retired colleague, Michael John Dawes. Michael peacefully left us on Saturday, 20th May 2023, surrounded by his loving family, after facing a prolonged illness.
He was 79 years old.

Michael dedicated his remarkable career to our fire service, joining our ranks on the 15th of March 1965 and faithfully serving until his retirement on the 30th of August 2002. He was the second in three generations of firefighters, with his father Jack preceding him, and his son Stuart currently serving within our ranks.

Throughout his tenure, Michael's commitment and expertise led him to achieve the rank of Station Officer Level 2A. Recognizing his outstanding contributions, he was honoured with the Australian Fire Service Medal.

Michael served at Adelaide HQ, Glynde, and Country Command, leaving an indelible mark on our organization.

Burial: Enfield Memorial Park

Michael's unwavering dedication to the South Australian public and his selfless service will forever be a legacy. His commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of others stands as a testament to his character and professionalism. We remember him as a valued member of our fire service family, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

During this difficult time, let us offer our sincerest condolences to Michael's family, friends, and loved ones. Our thoughts and support are with them as they navigate this loss.
