To all staff:
Please read the information below regarding Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and free clinician supervised courses. This may be of benefit to you, a family member or a mate. It is not just for the MFS. The suite of free wellbeing courses are a good way in for people who may not identify as having a diagnosed mental health condition. The four wellbeing programs are Managing Insomnia, Student Wellbeing, Coping with Stress and Intro to Mindfulness. The wellbeing courses are based on evidence-based CBT principles and are from a reputable and respected organisation. This Way Up’s ‘Take-a-Test tool’ allows people to undertake an anonymous questionnaire. Based on their results, they are directed to an appropriate wellbeing or condition-specific course:

The Perks of Clinician-Supervised Online CBT Courses
For over a decade, THIS WAY UP's Mental Health and Wellbeing online courses have been available at a low-cost. In April 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, THIS WAY UP made the decision to waive the fee for clinician supervised courses. We wanted to make it easier for people to access help at a time when demand for mental health support was understandably very high.
We are very happy to announce that we have been able to extend the free access to our courses when completed under clinician supervision. A registered or licensed health professional (for example a GP, psychologist, medical specialist, or allied health professional) can supervise you through a THIS WAY UP course, and it's simple and free for them to sign up.
Below are 3 reasons why completing an online THIS WAY UP course under the supervision of your clinician is a great choice, and can lead to improvements in how you feel.
1. It helps you to stay motivated Like many new things we try, it’s often much harder to stay motivated when doing it alone. However, when we have support, it’s easier to stay on track. Working through a THIS WAY UP course with the support of your clinician can encourage you to remember why you’re doing it, keep progressing through the lessons, help you to tailor CBT skills to your unique needs, and can act as encouraging form of accountability.
2. Clinician supervision can lead to better outcomes for your wellbeing Our research has shown that for those with low or fluctuating motivation, their outcomes might be improved with supervision. You could think of your supervising clinician like a coach who can help with any difficulties along the way and to help you make it through to the final lesson.
3. It’s FREE! Whilst THIS WAY UP courses remain low-cost when completed as self-help, there is no cost at all when you enrol in a course under clinician-supervision. We wanted to make it easier for people to access help during a time when mental health support can be expensive.
To introduce our courses to your local doctor, counsellor, psychologist, or other health professional, you may like to take this letter along with you to your next appointment and talk with them about whether an online CBT course might be a good fit for you.
Take care, The THIS WAY UP Team
